Last Feb. I went to Borgne. We met with the Boy Scouts who asked if we could get them musical instruments (v. expensive to buy in Haiti). They had 2 small drums.
So when we came back our group was able to gather donated instruments. Dick had them all repaired. Our friend Sarah and her college students from RIT took them when they visited Borgne. We filled many Army duffle bags. Sarah just got back from a second trip and brought this video of the band. I think they are just fabulous for only 5 months of instruction. Friends of Borgne paid for music teachers. The Boy Scouts said they could now earn money playing for weddings, funerals and other celebrations.
These people are so smart and so talented. Another video shows a big ceremony where the priest blessed the instruments. Just had to share since so many of you have contributed to this effort for the past 4 years. The sewing center graduates its first class this summer. Forty young adults who will now be able to earn some money with this new skill. The scholarship kids have finished their 4th year. More….but just wanted to share this cool music. Bryan Ruth and Collin will probably like the first song the best : )
